THE CHOICES FOR “MAISONS PAYSANNES DE FRANCE”

In “Maisons Paysannes de France” we prefer to use “natural” materials - those which our ancestors sourced locally to build the houses which are so dear to us; stone (walls, lime), earth (roof tiles, floor tiles, plaster), local wood (oak, chestnut, ash, pine, poplar…).

The requirement for comfort, well-being and looks which are so important during restoration need careful thought in making the right decision with all the choice that exists.

At “MPF” we have chosen lime and hemp which was grown for centuries and which is making a comeback.

This is an exceptional product which can be used for good insulation: it is grown without “additives” (fertiliser, pesticides…) and does not need watering. After transformation it solves our insulation problems. “Chènevotte” (chopped hemp stalks) mixed with chalk can be used for plastering walls, and hemp “ wool” as roof insulation (see table).
